Lip Exfoliators: The Quick And Easy Way To Banish Dry Lips Forever!

Lip ExfoliatorsIf you’ve been paying attention, you know that using an exfoliator for your face is one of THE most important things you can do for your skin; but what about lip exfoliators?

I know, I know, it sounds strange.

But if you’ve got dry, chapped lips, exfoliating could be just the thing that’s needed to bring them back to looking full, plump and smooth!

Dry lips, especially in the winter time can be caused by a number of things…

Allergies, medications, cosmetics, certain foods and snoring can all cause your lips to look less than perfect.

Luckily, lip exfoliation can get rid of that dead, dry skin on your lips and reveal softer, smoother skin underneath.

It can make a real difference by creating am even and smooth surface for makeup and boost the moisture content and “plumpness” of our lips.

Now in order to exfoliate your lips, you’ll first need a lip exfoliator, or lip scrub as they’re also called.

You can make your own at home, but we prefer buying a high-quality one from your favorite cosmetics company.

Most commercially-available lip exfoliators and lip scrubs start with a grainy base such as sugar crystals, nut shells or tiny microseeds.

The good ones also have nourishing ingredients like jojoba, beeswax, shea butter and/or castor oil.

Finally, some have vitamins and antioxidants that promote cell turnover and healing.

Depending on your budget, you can go bare-bones with lip exfoliators or spend extra for a really luxurious one.  the choice is yours!

Once you decide on one, you’ll need to follow a few steps to use it…

    1. Apply a dab or two of your exfoliator to your upper and lower lips
    2. Wet your toothbrush and rub your lips in a circular motion
    3. Either wash it off or use a tissue
    4. Be sure to put on a good lip balm afterwards

As you can see, the process is pretty simple and doesn’t take a lot of time.  Just remember to start slowly and rub VERY gently at first.  The skin on your lips is much thinner than the skin on your face!

Most people should exfoliate their lips at least once a week to start.

However, if your lips are very dry, you may have to exfoliate them several times a week for awhile to get them back into shape.  Remember to be patient.

It also makes sense to exfoliate them anytime you’re going to wear a bold or nude lipstick.  It’ll just make them look so much smoother and plumper.

If your lips are still dry after exfoliating, there are a few additional things you can do to keep your lips in tip-top shape…

    • Use lip balm everyday that has moisturizer and SPF in it
    • Use an ointment before going to bed each night
    • Don’t lick your lips too often (this actually makes dry lips worse!)
    • Drink lots of water throughout the day (duh)
    • Use moisturizing lipstick
    • Use a humidifier in your home or office if the air is dry

Between regular exfoliation and these tips, your lips will look smooth, plump and “kissable” all year round!
