Quick Summary
I’m usually a big fan of Origins products, so I had high hopes for Origins Modern Friction exfoliator. I have to say though, I was really disappointed with this product.
I ended up giving it 2 out of 5 stars because I found it to be ineffective and difficult to use.
First off, I couldn’t even apply this exfoliator as directed because it’s way too thick to rub onto dry skin.
Second, I saw absolutely no results from this product.
And lastly, Origins Modern Friction really irritated my eyes.
It’s one redeeming quality was its scent…. it smelled delicious!
But overall, this exfoliator really fell flat in my opinion.
Detailed Review:
Texture/Feel
Origins Modern friction is a very thick, white cream.
You can definitely feel the rice starch in this product, which gives it a grainy texture.
However, I really didn’t like the rice starch.
I like to feel my exfoliators working, so I’m definitely fonder of rougher exfoliating agents. I found the starch to be too soft and almost waxy feeling.
Smell
One of the only things I liked about this product is the way it smells.
Origins Modern Friction smells absolutely amazing. It smells like a spa, with hints of lemon and mint.
It was very relaxing and fresh– I couldn’t get enough of it.
Application Process
I like that this exfoliator comes in a tube. However, that’s the only thing that’s easy about the application process.
The directions say to apply to dry skin (damp if you have sensitive skin) in circular motions.
However, it’s way too thick and impossible to spread onto dry skin. I had no choice but to dampen my skin before applying it.
I also found it very difficult to rinse off, which was annoying.
Even more annoying was how bad this product stung my eyes when rinsing it off.
I originally thought this was a one-time thing and I may have just gotten some in my eyes, but it continued to occur… every time! Ouch!
Any Drying and/or Redness?
I didn’t experience any drying or redness of my skin when using Origins Modern Friction, but boy did my eyes burn!
That makes me wonder what kind of harsh chemicals they have in there to make eyes that irritated.
The burning only lasted about 45 seconds, but it’s not a pleasant feeling and it’s one of the main things I didn’t like about this one.
Results
This product was not effective in removing dead skin. After I used it, the areas of dead skin I had prior to using the product were still there.
I was also hoping this product would help clear up some acne I had, but I didn’t notice any difference there either :(
What good is an exfoliator if it doesn’t rid of dry skin or acne?
Needless to say, the results I got were basically nonexistent.
Ingredients
This exfoliator uses rice starch as its main exfoliating agent, which is supposed to gently remove dead skin cells. As I mentioned before, I didn’t find that this helped remove dry skin at all.
It also contains lemon oil, which is included to aid in the lightening and “illuminating” of skin. I’m not sure about that!
Price
Origins Modern Friction costs $39.50 which works out to $9.40 per oz.
This is definitely reasonable for an exfoliator, but it’s a lot for such an ineffective product.
