Quick Summary
I liked SkinFood Black Sugar Mask and the effect it had on my skin after several uses.
I ended up giving it 3 out of 5 stars, so there were just a couple of things I didn’t like.
The product is labeled as a Black Sugar Mask. It is actually brown and looks like a jar of baby food.
It had a nice bright lemon smell, which was surprising with the brown color of the product. The smell did remind me of some household cleaning products.
Because it’s both an exfoliator and a mask, leaving the product on for 10-15 minutes was different than your average exfoliator.
It’s recommended to add water or toner to the product while you are applying, which makes application a little messy.
It was easy to wash off with warm water. The brown didn’t leave anything stained, which was nice.
The price is really great at only $10. Using the mask twice a week was totally worth the price.
It left my skin feeling nice and soft just after use. But I didn’t notice much of a difference long-term on a day-to-day basis.
Overall, I liked the result for such a great price. But I wouldn’t say it is the best product on the market.
Detailed Review:
Texture/Feel
SkinFood Black Sugar Mask is a sticky, gooey, brown paste.
It needs to be thinned with water or toner for use, which is odd for an exfoliator.
Smell
It has a lemon smell – clean and refreshing. Although, the smell reminded me of cleaning products at times.
Application Process
The texture is a sticky paste, which thins out as you add water while applying it to your face.
It didn’t cause too much of a mess, but I had to make sure and limit the water I added in order to keep it from getting too thin and dripping down my face.
Leaving the product on for 10-15 minutes was interesting. As it sat and warmed up on my face, there was some slight dripping.
My skin felt nice after having the product on for 10 minutes. It didn’t burn or cause any bad reaction.
It was easy to wash off and didn’t leave any nasty film or residue.
My skin felt really soft and nice after washing it off.
Any Drying and/or Redness?
I didn’t have any redness or dry areas after several uses.
Short Term Results
My skin right after use felt very soft and exfoliated.
I did feel like my skin was a little brighter that day after using it in the morning.
Long Term Results
There was no significant long term change in my skin, which was a bit of a letdown.
I mostly noticed improvement immediately after using the product.
Ingredients
This exfoliator includes Shea Butter, Brazilian Black Sugar, and Caramel.
I really liked the Brazilian Black Sugar as the exfoliating particles. It definitely felt like it was removing the dead skin without causing irritation.
The Shea Butter really helps with moisturizing, which you can feel after leaving the mask on for 10-15 minutes.
Price
SkinFood Black Sugar Mask is $10.00 per jar.
