    Quick Summary

St. Ives’ Blemish Control Apricot Scrub is just an average exfoliator in my opinion.

Because it’s a drugstore product, I was very skeptical about the quality of this scrub. After testing it out, there were some things I liked and some things I didn’t.

As for the likes, you definitely can’t beat the price of this one.

It’s under $5.00, and it’s literally available everywhere.

So this is an okay option for those of you in a pinch or those who are financially limited to buying drugstore products.

The smell is also something I enjoyed about this product. It’s very sweet and refreshing.

Now on to the not so good… the results were very mediocre.

This one is supposed to help with acne, but I didn’t notice any improvement in my blemishes. It did help with some dry patches of skin, and my skin felt soft, but I was disappointed that it didn’t clear my skin.

It also dried my skin out after continual use due to the salicylic acid being a main ingredient.

So overall, it was a very average exfoliator and I ended up giving it 2.5 out of 5 stars.

    Detailed Review:

    Texture/Feel

St. Ives Apricot Scrub is a very thick, light cream-colored scrub. The base of this product is very smooth and has a lotion like texture to it. You can definitely see and feel the walnut shell granules in this product, which gives it a very gritty texture.

I have mixed feeling about its thickness. The thick, gritty, lotion-like texture of this scrub makes the product very easy to apply, but it’s difficult to rinse off.

    Smell

I really like the smell of this scrub!

It has a very sweet apricot smell to it.

The smell is very refreshing and makes the scrub enjoyable to apply.

    Application Process

St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub is directed for use 2-3 times daily.

    Who has time for that??

I’d recommend using this only once a day because it can be a bit drying.

I personally only wash my face 1-2 times a day, so 2-3 times a day seems very excessive to me.

Many doctors will advise against washing your face 3 times a day due to the stripping your natural oils.

Anyway, to use this product apply a small amount to clean skin and gently massage into skin and then rinse.

Although the application of this product is very simple, I found it difficult to completely rinse the product off due to its thick, creamy texture.

I had to spend a minute or two rinsing my face with warm water to remove all the walnut particles.

Sometimes I found that didn’t even do the trick and had to wipe them off with a towel, which was really annoying.

    Any Drying and/or Redness?

Although I didn’t experience any redness after using this product I did find it to be very rough.

The asymmetrical walnut shells used in this product are very harsh on the skin and when paired with salicylic acid, left my skin very dry.

Salicylic acid alone is very drying so it’s extremely important to use a good moisturizer after using this product.

    Results

The results of this product were very average.

Immediately after using this scrub, my skin soft, but it only did an okay job exfoliating my skin.

Although this product made my skin feel soft, it didn’t do a great job in the “blemish control” department.

In fact, I didn’t notice a huge improvement in my acne. I was hoping it would help with some blackheads I had, but it didn’t.

I also found that after continual use the product was very drying.

I’d recommend limiting this products’ use to once a day or every other day, and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with sensitive skin.

    Ingredients

Overall, I actually like the ingredients in this one.

St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub uses 100% natural exfoliants and is sulfate and paraben free.

Although it can be a bit drying, I like that this product includes salicylic acid (2%) to help eliminate acne.

This scrub contains apricot extracts, which contain high levels of purifying carotenoids and antioxidants which are said to help clean, polish and nourish the skin.

    Price

My favorite thing about St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub is the price.

It costs $3.54, which works out to be only $0.59 an oz.

This is one of the most inexpensive exfoliators on the market!
