    Quick Summary

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from The Face Shop Jeju Volcanic Lava, but I was excited to use something with volcanic ash.

I decided to give this 3/5 stars, because I thought there were both good and bad things about it.

I really liked the smell of this – it was light and musky without being too strong.  I also noticed the smell didn’t linger too much after I was done using it.

The application was really easy and clean – I like that I could just store the bottle on the countertop after I was done.

I expected it to be a lot darker because of the volcanic ash, but it is a light brown/pinkish color.

The ash is really interesting as an exfoliator – it’s extremely fine, which is nice for every day use.

This definitely made my skin feel really clean and clear right after using it.

I didn’t develop any redness or irritation.

Over several uses, I didn’t see the brightness or softness that I have with other exfoliators I have used.

Even though I didn’t get the long term effects I was looking for, I thought it was a pretty good cleanser for the price of $15.00.

    Detailed Review:

    Texture/Feel

The Face Shop Jeju Volcanic Lava is a light brown/pink cleanser with a gel/mousse feel to it.

The volcanic ash is extremely fine and does not create the grainy abrasion that you typically see with an exfoliator.

    Smell (in the bottle)

This has a musky smell, which is nice and light.

    Application Process

The application is really easy because of the bottle.

It is easy to pop the lid off and squeeze out the desired amount without making a huge mess.

I liked that I could just close the cap and store it standing up on my counter.

I didn’t need too much of the product to get the right exfoliating/cleanser effect.

It was really easy to rinse off and didn’t get sticky or leave a bad film.

I didn’t notice any residual exfoliating particles or ash after I had rinsed it off, which was also nice.

    Any Drying and/or Redness?

I didn’t have any redness or dryness after using it several times.

This is a really gentle exfoliator.

    Short Term Results

I noticed right after use my skin was extremely clean and felt fairly soft.

I thought it removed my make-up and everything quite well.

I liked that I was able to use it to cleanse my face while also exfoliating my cheeks, nose, and forehead at the same time.

Personally, I felt as though I wanted more exfoliating from the product after each use.

It might have been a little too gentle for what I wanted in an exfoliator.

    Long Term Results

Over time, I didn’t develop any redness or dry patches.

I also didn’t notice a huge improvement in my skin like I have in the past with other products.

It did a fine job each time I used it, but I didn’t love the total results after using it for several days in a row.

Overall, I think I was wanting more intense exfoliating from the product than I experienced.

    Ingredients

I really liked trying the volcanic ash, which ended up really helping with cleansing rather than exfoliating. Jeju Volcanic Ash is from Jeju Island of South Korea.

It also has great oils from rosemary, grapefruit, and lavender, which I think contributed to the great smell of the product.

    Price

The price for a 5 oz bottle was only $15 on The Face Shop website, which I thought was really reasonable for something you might use on a daily basis.
